The Long Road Back to Faith

This television documentary, in Latvian with English subtitles, was produced, directed, written and narrated by Sandra Upeslacis. Produced with 100% funding from the OMNI Television Independent Producers Initiative, The Long Road Back to Faith explores the rebirth of the Lutheran religion in post-communist Latvia and how Canadians are influencing this effort.  The one-hour film was shot in Canada and Latvia in 2005 and will air on OMNI Television, Toronto in 2006/07.  It presents the tensions between religious leaders from the West and post-Soviet East who are trying to come together after 50 years apart.  Disagreements about women's rights, homosexuality and other social concerns send believers running for cover while their leaders duke it out.  Who will win the hearts and minds of Lutherans in Latvia?  Somebody will have to step aside.

The Long Road Back to Faith is the first documentary film produced by Allenwood Productions Inc.
