Sandra Upeslacis has been a journalist for more than 20 years and considers writing to be among her strongest areas of expertise.  She began her career in Ottawa while studying to complete her Bachelor of Journalism degree at Carleton University , which she received in 1981.  She won her first award as Best Producer of a public affairs program at CKCU-FM Radio, Ottawa , also in 1981.  In addition, Sandra holds a Diplome de langue et civilisations francaises from the Universite de Paris-Sorbonne, which she obtained in Paris , France in 1983.

Sandra has written freelance articles for numerous Canadian newspapers and magazines, was a staff writer at Science Dimension magazine at the National Research Council, Ottawa, Editor of Ottawa Woman magazine, Associate Editor of Ottawa Magazine, and most recently a Senior Reporter on Sveiks, a Latvian-language magazine-format program for OMNI Television, Toronto. 

Sandra was born in Toronto , Canada and is the daughter of Latvian immigrants. She works equally at ease in English, French or Latvian.
